Which Ipad Is Compatible With Apple Pencil
Depending on the iPad model you have, you’ll need to use one or the other version of the Apple Pencil.
Everything You Need To Know About The Apple Pencil
When used with the right apps, the Apple Pencil can be used just like a real Pencil; You can even make angled sketches and drawings to add shadows. You don’t have to leave the pen to operate the iPad—you can tap the screen and drag things with the pen tip to launch apps.
However, not all iPads work with the Apple Pencil, and there are actually two different models of Pencils – the original round stylus and the new Apple Pencil with straight edges.
The first-generation Apple Pencil was a glossy white, round stylus with a cap that included a Lightning charging port and a silver ring on the back.
The first generation Apple Pencil is easily distinguishable by its perfectly round shape and the lightning connector on the back.

Apple is calling the new Apple Pencil the same name as the original pencil – simply «Apple Pencil». But the second generation pen is a very different device and not compatible with the same iPads.
It looks completely different: it’s finished in matte white and has a flat side, so it doesn’t roll like the original pencil. It’s magnetic, so it attaches to the side of the iPad when not in use. Instead of a Lightning port, it charges wirelessly when magnetically attached to an iPad.

The Best Note Taking Apps For The Ipad And Apple Pencil
Apple today introduced a pair of new tablets (the successor to the iPad Air 2 and the fifth-generation iPad mini), and Apple Pencil support became one of its flagship tablets with new features, but the devices only work with the first-generation Apple Pencil. It costs $99.
The new mini is a much smaller iPad that supports the older generation Pencil. While every iPad Apple currently sells includes stylus support, only the iPad Pro supports the latest Apple Pencil 2.
Support for the second-generation Apple Pencil is nowhere mentioned in Apple’s press release or website. All images on the new iPad Air and iPad mini 5 web pages show the original Pencil and the caption “First-generation Apple Pencil sold separately.”
In other words, the third-generation iPad Air or iPad mini 5 lacks a magnet to charge and attach the second-generation Apple Pencil, which costs $129.

Just like last year’s entry-level iPad, the iPad mini also gets support for the Apple Pencil. Unfortunately, it charges via the device’s Lightning port for the original version of the pen. The latest iPad Pros support an updated version of the pen that can charge the tablet wirelessly after being magnetically attached to the side of the tablet. Very nice, but the iPad mini needs a redesign.
Next week’s update to the iWork productivity suite will bring improved Apple Pencil support in Pages, Numbers and Keynotes. On top of that, you can draw an animation path for any object, and there’s a new interface for creating effects like moving and scaling.
As 9to5Mac’s Jeff Benjamin points out, the two new iPads released this morning are the first new models since the sixth-generation iPad (2018) to feature the Logitech Crayon.
The Logitech Crayon is an alternative to the Apple Pencil that uses some of the same technology as Apple’s stylus and has tilt support, but no pressure sensitivity. The Crayon offers seven hours of battery life on a full charge and 30 minutes of battery life on a short two-minute charge. The price of the Crayon gives it an advantage over the Apple Pencil. The Crayon costs $70, thirty dollars cheaper than the first-generation Apple Pencil. The Crayon features auto-pairing, which eliminates the need for finicky Bluetooth pairing sometimes associated with the original Apple Pencil.
Why The Latest Ipads Don’t Support Apple Pencil 2
There’s no denying that the new iPads get some features previously reserved for iPad Pros, such as True Tone display technology with wide color support, but we’re definitely not seeing an iPad mini with support for a 7.9-inch display. For Apple Pencil.
As The Loop’s Dave Mark points out, the new iPad mini with Apple Pencil support looks “painfully close” to Apple Pencil support for the larger iPhone.

Last fall, the stylus market was rocked by Apple’s first-party competition with the Apple Pencil, which works with specialized sensors on the iPad Pro display for pixel-accurate recognition. This has left third-party pen accessory makers in a quandary: How can they compete with the officially sanctioned Apple Pencil?

The Pixel Stylus is Adonit’s answer, available today for $79.99. Adonit’s stylus is not only $20 cheaper than Apple’s, but also has a huge advantage in terms of iOS device compatibility. It’s closest to the Apple Pencil for the iPhone or the Apple Pencil for the non-Pro iPad.

Adonit Pixel communicates with iOS device via Bluetooth and supports iPhone 5, iPhone 6, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, third and fourth generation iPads, iPad Air, iPad Air 2, all iPad minis and 12.9. – inch iPad Pro. The 9.7-inch Pro is a notable omission from the compatibility list, but you can expect support for Apple’s latest iPad soon.
The Pixel uses a 1.9mm “PixelPoint” tip to draw and paint with astonishing realism; Before the release of the Apple Pencil, Adonit’s pens were the most sought-after products. With the Pixel, you get 2048 degrees of pressure sensitivity, two shortcut buttons, and more.
The Pixel is a replacement for the previous high-end model, the Adonit Jat Touch. The Adonit Pixel replaces its predecessor with lower cost, higher sensitivity, offset correction and palm rejection enhancements.
Apple Pencil 2 Not Compatible With Older Ipads And Original Apple Pencil Won’t Work With New Models
Unlike the Apple Pencil, the Adonit will only work with certain apps, a shortcoming shared with third-party Bluetooth-enabled iPad styli. The company says it has made changes to the nib to increase traction on the glass screen surface, making this stylus ideal for writing and note-taking.
While the Pencil continues to dominate in terms of latency and performance, the Adonit Pixel is a useful alternative, especially for those with older iPads.
The addition of shortcut buttons is also a nice touch, as the Apple Pencil’s lack of an eraser option is one of the most complained about. Buy the Adonit Pixel today for $79.99. More details can be found on the company’s website.
