Activating your new iPad is easy, whether you choose to set it up manually or use the Quick Start option.
You’ll be offered instructions on how to set up a new Apple Watch, iPhone, or Mac, sync data with your iCloud account, and more. You’ll also see options to set up Touch ID, Siri, and location services, which you can choose now or save to set up later in Settings.

To skip some of these steps, you can choose to set up your iPad using the Quick Start option, bringing it closer to the iPhone or iPad registered to your account. To set up your iPad manually, follow the on-screen instructions right out of the box.

2. Press the power button on the top of the device to turn on your iPad. You should be greeted with a “Hello” screen in several languages. Click the Home button to get started.
4. You will then be prompted with the Quick Start option. You can choose to bring your other iPhone or iPad registered with your Apple ID near your new iPad, where you can then follow the onscreen instructions to transfer your settings and preferences from this device to your new one.

If you don’t have another device nearby (or if you don’t have a device running iOS 11 or later), you can easily choose to set up your iPad manually. To do this, click on the blue “Manual Install” option at the bottom of the screen.
1. Select a Wi-Fi network to connect to and enter its password if necessary. The next screen will say “It may take a few minutes to activate iPad.”
2. On the data and privacy page, tap the blue Continue or click Learn More to read more information. At any time during the setup process, you can tap the blue Back button in the upper left corner of the screen to return to the previous page.
3. If your iPad has Touch ID, set up Touch ID now or choose to set it up later. If you choose to install it right away, follow the instructions to place your finger on the Home button a few times and choose a passcode.

4. If you choose not to set up Touch or Face ID, you’ll still be prompted to create a passcode. Click Passcode Options below to choose which type, or choose not to use one at all.
5. If you choose the latter option, a pop-up will appear reminding you that using a password is strongly recommended. You can still choose to ignore this by clicking “Don’t use a password”. You can also change your mind and choose to create one at this time.
6. Next, you will see the Apps & Data page. Here you choose how to restore data from your iCloud profile. You’ll also have the option to restore from a Mac or PC, migrate data from an Android device if necessary, or start over. Click “Restore from iCloud Backup” if you want to transfer your saved data from your account. Sign in with your iCloud Apple ID on the next page.

7. Select backup. If you are replacing an old iPad, you can select the “Back up the latest iPad” section. If this is your first iPad, or if your old iPad hasn’t been backed up in a while, you can also choose to restore iPhone backup data. Tap the blue Show All Backups to see all your options. Tap your choice when you’ve decided.
8. Continue the setup process to enable location services and Siri and download the latest software update to your iPad.
You may have to wait a while for your software to update and restore your backup. After the download is complete, you will finally be greeted with “Welcome to iPad”. Tap the blue Start option to take you to your home page.

Next, set a six-digit passcode to help protect your data. You need a passcode to use Face ID, Touch ID, and Apple Pay features. If you want a four-digit passcode, a regular passcode, or no passcode, tap Password Options.
Choose how you want to restore or transfer your data from your old device to your new device. You can use an iCloud backup or a backup from your computer or transfer data from an Android device.
Enter your Apple ID and password, or tap Forgot password or don’t have an Apple ID? From there, you can reset your Apple ID or password, create an Apple ID, or set it up later.
