To find out which version of the Duo Mobile app is installed on your device, open the Duo Mobile app and tap the menu icon. The version of the application will be displayed in the lower left corner.

When you first sign up for Duo and choose to add an iOS device or use Duo Push, you’ll be presented with a QR code that you can scan with the Duo Mobile app to complete the activation process.

Use your camera to scan the QR code displayed during Duo registration in your browser. If prompted to allow Duo Mobile to use your device’s camera, allow it.

If you’ve never used Duo before, we recommend practicing for a few minutes to approve and deny Duo authentication requests. Tap Practice Now to cycle through some practice screens like this one. If you’re comfortable using Duo Mobile to sign in to apps, you can tap Skip.

Duo Two Factor Authentication

Respond even faster on Duo Mobile by enabling notifications. You’ll see new Duo Push requests as they arrive on your device, and you can approve or reject them from the notification without opening the app. Tap Enable Notifications to enable notifications from Duo Mobile app in iOS settings.

You will see your newly added Duo account in the accounts list. You can now respond to Duo Push authentication requests or generate access codes to sign in to apps.

If you choose to authenticate with Duo Push, you will receive a login request on your phone – simply press the Confirm button to verify.

If you receive an unexpected login request, press the Decline button to decline the request. You will be asked if this is a suspicious entry. If you’re not trying to sign in to a Duo-protected app or service and don’t recognize the request, tap Yes to notify your organization’s Duo administrator. If you made a mistake or the entry is not suspicious, tap No to deny the request without notice.

Setting Up & Using Duo

You can respond to Duo Push requests from the iOS lock screen or banner notification. The actions you see when you respond to a notification depend on your organization’s Duo policy settings, such as whether you can approve a login request without a PIN or biometric verification.

Firmly long-press the Duo Mobile notification on the lock screen to display the “Confirm” or “Reject” actions. Tap the action and enter your password or biometric authentication (face or fingerprint) to complete the action.

When your screen is unlocked, long press or swipe down after receiving a Duo Mobile banner notification to view the authentication processes.

On devices without 3D Touch, swipe left after the Duo Mobile notification to show actions.

Enroll Via Passcode

Your organization may require biometric verification when you approve a Duo Push request. If your device supports it, you can approve Duo authentication requests using Face ID.

The first time you receive a Duo Push request that requires biometric authentication on your iOS device, you will be prompted to grant Face ID permission to the Duo Mobile app. Tap OK to continue.

Scan your face the same way you used to unlock your device to confirm the Duo sign-in request.

If you can’t approve a login request using Face ID, or if you haven’t given Duo Mobile permission to use Face ID, you can approve a Duo verification request using your device’s password.

If you’re using an iOS device with Touch ID support, you can scan your fingerprint to approve Duo authentication requests.

If you can’t scan your fingerprint using the Touch ID sensor, you can also approve a Duo verification request using your device’s passcode.

Your organization may require you to enter the verification code shown in the Duo Universal prompt into the Duo Mobile app when approving a Duo Push request. This protects you from approving sign-in requests you didn’t make and helps keep your accounts and information safe. To authenticate a Duo Push request with a code, iOS 13 or later requires Duo Mobile app 4.17.0 or later installed. If your organization requires Duo Push authentication, the Duo Universal Prompt displays a six-digit code on the screen when you choose to use Duo Push to sign in to that app. Enter the code shown on the screen into the Duo Mobile app and tap Verify to confirm the login request. If you enter the wrong code, tap OK on your phone to return to the Duo Universal Prompt, where you can click or tap More Options to choose a different sign-in method or retry Duo Push. If you receive a Duo Push request on your phone and you’re not trying to sign in to this app, tap I’m not signing in to decline the request. You will be asked if this is a suspicious entry. Tap Yes to notify your organization’s Duo administrator, or tap No if you made a mistake or the entry is not suspicious. Check out our Apple Watch Apple Watch. If you do not use this access code before it expires, the account will be reset with a new access code and the countdown will start again. If you need to use the password displayed on Duo Mobile in another mobile app, tap Copy and paste the password in another app. Adding more accounts to the Duo Mobile app To add more accounts to the Duo Mobile app, tap Add in the upper right corner of the account list and go to select an account type.
